Alaska Airlines announces easier ways to earn miles and status from award travel, credit card spending, and more.
As mileage plan members rack up miles new milestones are within flight. These updates come as Alaska and Hawaiian merge to create a single membership program for the new Alaska Airlines Group family.
“We’re on a multi-year journey to make the industry’s most generous loyalty program even more rewarding,” said Brett Catlin, vice president of loyalty, alliances and sales at Alaska Airlines.
“In 2025, Mileage Plan members will have access to all-new, more frequent perks along with expanded ways to earn elite status, including on award travel. As we invest in a single loyalty platform with Hawaiian Airlines, there is even more to come later in the year.” said Catlin
Milestones are hit at specific EQM (Elite qualifying miles) intervals such as 10K, 20K, 30K, etc.

Additionally, members can earn EQMs from other ways not just by purchasing airfare. Options include: award-travel redemptions, Alaska Airlines Card, earnings from non-airline partners, and roll over EQMs.
Partnering with fellow One World airlines, global partner redemptions booked via Alaska (website or app) earn 100% of miles. Muti-carrier redemptions and miles for exclusive events are also launching in 2025.
For member upgrades, loyalty will be prioritized with Million Milers first, then based on EQMs guests have earned.
Members who are traveling with an MVP will now be eligible for space-available upgrades when traveling on the same reservation.
Finally, members with upgrade certificates will receive notifications so they can be the first to know when confirmed upgrade space is available for their flights.
